New visiting rules in prison
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) we have changed our routines for visiting someone in prison or remand prison.
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (the SPPS) accepts international study visits from governments and official organizations working with prison and probation related issues. Below you will find information regarding the application process.
The SPPS has an office, the Office for International Affairs, which coordinates all international affairs within the government. The Office for International Affairs handles all applications regarding international study visits. The office is located in Stockholm.
The Office for International Affairs has Swedish and English as working languages, hence, all visits will be conducted in either of those languages. If interpretation service is needed, this will be booked and paid for by the visiting delegation.
In-country transportations (such as travelling to and from study visit locations) are to be arranged and paid for by the visiting delegation. The Office for International Affairs may provide information regarding booking procedures.
In general, the SPPS only approves visitors representing official organizations or governments. For security reasons, as well as to ensure the integrity of the SPPS´ clients, private persons or individuals who apply for a study visit without the clearance of a national government or an official organization will not be permitted to visit the facilities of the SPPS. For this reason, the SPPS kindly ask all applicants to present a clearance provided by national authorities or an official organization (such as the national prison service, the embassy or another equivalent organization).
Please fill out the form below to initiate the application process. A detailed application facilitates the process. Please ensure to provide the names as well as the titles/ranks of all the members of the visiting delegation.
