Security and Classification
Swedish prisons are classified as 1, 2, 3. Class 1 prisons have the highest security, followed by class 2 and 3.
Where a prisoner is allocated depends on a risk and needs assessment. Risk of flight, criminal ties to other prisoners, conviction and need of treatment are things that play a part in the assessment.
In order to maintain a safe and drugfree environment, prison premises and cells are regularly searched by prison officers and sniffer dogs. Prisoners also have to leave urine or blood samples and can be body searched at any time.
